Technology specialist Azzurri Communications commits over £1m investment to Hull regeneration

Revolutionising teaching and learning in schools across the country

Hull - Scores of new IT jobs are being promised for Hull with news today that leading communications and technology company Azzurri Communications is furthering its commitment to the area with over £1m of regeneration investment.

Azzurri Communications, which recently acquired two Hull-based educational solutions firms - Chisholms Computers and CMS - will also invest in new facilities for its research and development team and in further improvements to its leading educational IT applications.

Divisional director Gerard Toplass, who also acts as chairman of City Digital Limited, is driving the move. He is now in talks with Hull City Council regarding the plans and ways that the council can get involved in helping to bring extra technology-based jobs to the area.

"Azzurri Communications is pledging its commitment to Hull, not only in confirming that it is to base its successful national education business in the city, but in significant investment that will lead to enhanced facilities and more jobs," said Toplass.

"This is great news for the city. It is important for the area that it can attract investment from companies like Azzurri in order to create high paid jobs in new industries. We are looking for support from the council to help us maximise our latest investment in the area."

Azzurri Communications' flagship suite of applications, TALMOS, continues to be developed in association with five local secondary schools. It is a revolutionary system that enables teachers to easily share and access lesson plans and manage ICT delivery in the classroom at the click of a mouse.

In association with the Digital Home showcase project with Hull City Council, Azzurri Communications is trialling a system that further enhances the TALMOS suite by providing a 24x7 learning environment.

This empowers parents to play a greater role in supporting their children's education at home, enabling those with home computers and broadband connections to connect to resources that are being used in the classroom.

"TALMOS was developed in partnership with local schools," continued Toplass. "It is testimony to their vision and professionalism that we have been able to work together to create a system that is already recognised by educationalists as a leading IT solution.

"Already TALMOS has been shortlisted from over 400 products for an award at BETT, the annual educational technology show, and it has also been implemented nationwide by secondary schools and a group of educational collaborators.

These are federations of schools, including feeder primary's that have grouped together so that they can share best practice for the greater good of their pupils across the area.

"Our investment in Hull will enable us to further develop this solution and other products that will help improve education in schools up and down the country."
