Employment Partner Raises over £2,500 in Big Apple Challenge

Rachael Heenan, a Partner at Beachcroft Wansbroughs' Leeds office and leading member of the firm's national employment group, has raised over £2,500 by putting MIND before body, tackling the gruelling, 26.2-mile, New York Marathon on 6th November 2005.

Having never run at all before starting her training, let alone a marathon, Rachael trained four times a week to enable her to raise money for MIND (The National Association of Mental Health). Rachael has raised at least £2,500, with more money still being collected, for the leading mental health charity in England and Wales, which works to create a better quality of life for anyone experiencing mental distress, or illness.

Commenting on why she decided to tackle the marathon, Rachael said: "I'm very happy to be raising money for such a worthwhile cause, even though it has surprised some people as I was not generally considered a fitness fanatic! However, it is such an achievement and it has been extremely enjoyable if not challenging. For me I have learnt that you can do anything if you put your mind to it and raising money as well is an additional bonus."

Having survived New York, Rachael will also be entering the London Marathon in April 2006 and is also considering entering for New York in 2006 to see if she can better her time. Rachael ran the Marathon with her husband, Lucas and supported by their four-year-old son Freddie and other family members.

Rachael's positive attitude is reflected throughout Beachcroft Wansbroughs, one of the largest law firms in the UK to have achieved the Investor in People quality standard. The Employment Group in Leeds is one of the biggest in the city and has recently been described in Legal 500 as "a receptive and responsive department". The Group has built on its successful relationships with clients both in the public and private sector and this has been reflected in the growth of the team in the last 18 months, which will stand at 13 fee-earners by the end of the year.
