Leading mechanical and electrical services specialist EIC has been awarded a £2 million contract by main contractor, Pettifer Construction, to cover mechanical and electrical installation work at St Georges Tower, the tallest tower block in Leicester, which is located in the heart of the City Centre.
Permission has been given for the buildings on site - consisting of co-joined tower blocks of 11 and 22 storeys - to be retained and refurbished. EIC is due to start work on the first phase - the 11-storey block - in April and the contract is expected to take 43 weeks to complete.
The development will comprise refurbishment and alterations to the existing building, together with new build construction to form a service tower to provide leisure and residential units. Besides refurbishment, new works will include the build of additional floors and the conversion of various aspects of the existing building to accommodate future tenants.
Nigel Le Marechal, joint managing director of EIC, comments: "We're delighted to be able to take the opportunity to demonstrate our ability to work across a variety of sectors simultaneously - retail, commercial and residential - in a prime City Centre location. We've worked closely with Pettifer for the last twenty years and its great to be asked to team up with them on what is a significant project for the people of Leicester."
Chris Collison, Operations Director for Pettifer Construction adds: "EIC is one of our most trusted sub-contractors as the company has never failed to deliver regardless of the size and scale of a job. We're looking forward to working with the team once again on this project."
