BEACHCROFT APPOINTS CLEGG AS HEAD OF NATIONAL PROPERTY TEAM

BEACHCROFT APPOINTS CLEGG AS HEAD OF NATIONAL PROPERTY TEAM

25 April 2006 - Beachcroft Wansbroughs has announced another first for the North with the appointment of Leeds partner Virginia Clegg as head of its national property team. Virginia, who already heads up the firm's cross-Pennine property group, takes over the helm from Michael Bothamley from 1st May 2006.

The national property team currently includes 140 staff based across the firm's network of UK offices. Led by 20 partners and including another 80 lawyers, the team's impressive client list includes UK and overseas property companies and institutions, leading retailers and corporate organisations, contractors and landowners.

Virginia has a long and successful track record of acting for major property owners and developers. Her particular specialisation is in retail development, one major client being Asda.

Commenting on her new role, Virginia said: "I am delighted to be heading up one of the best legal teams in the country for property clients. We can offer tremendous strength and depth, as well as a really pragmatic, well-informed approach to industry and business issues. I am very proud to be the first national team head to be based in the North and look forward to working with every member of the team to build on the great work Michael Bothamley has done to date."

Virginia also has an impressive personal pedigree in the commercial property arena. She trained at Berwin Leighton under the legendary John Fenner and is one of the daughters of the late Tony Clegg, the dynamo who built his company, Mountleigh Group, into one of the stock market's star performers in the '70s and '80s. Measured over a 12-year period from 1976 to 1987, Mountleigh's share price out-performed every other British quoted company, due to the celebrated 'Clegg formula' of rigorous analysis, innovative financing and astute risk management. His local 'good works' were also a matter of public record and he served as the first Chairman of the United Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, the Princes Youth Business Trust and the first non-medical honorary member of the charity he helped to found, Cansearch.
