SPECIALIST TEAM HELPS TO STAMP OUT INSURANCE FRAUD
Commercial law firm, Beachcroft Wansbroughs is helping to clamp down on insurance fraud throughout the Northwest by establishing a specialist claims validation team in Manchester.
Led by partner, Michael Suddards, the team will focus on eradicating the large number of non- genuine claims that continue to plague insurance firms across the region, and increase consumers' premiums.
"Advanced fraud detection techniques have unveiled a huge amount of fraudulent claims over the last three years," says Suddards. "Not only is this costing the industry £millions, but it can have a negative affect on genuine compensation claims.
"One of the main reasons behind our new team is the increasing number of 'staged motor accidents' here in the Northwest. There are literally hundreds of 'professional claimants' in our region who are using innocent motorists to set up a motor accident, so that they can then claim for damages.
"Unfortunately this is another indication that the claims culture is still thriving in the UK, so we need to look for new ways to help address this. By utilising our litigation expertise and working closely with the insurance industry, we can help eliminate these fraudulent claims. Importantly, this will also ensure that genuine claimants do not miss out on the compensation they deserve."
Currently the team consists of four specialist lawyers in Manchester, including Frances Hickey and Kate Singleton who join the firm this month from Keoghs and Horwich Farrelly.
