According to a recent poll the Lake District is the UK’s top destination for UK holidaymakers.
The survey, which was undertaken by South Lakeland Caravans, discovered that an overwhelming 76.2 per cent of holidaymakers felt very safe going on holiday in the UK. This encouraging move for UK tourism was strengthened for the Lake District in particular, with 45.2 per cent of people polled naming the region as their favourite UK destination, beating popular holiday spots such as Cornwall and Scotland.
This boost in UK tourism is furthered by 42.9 per cent of holidaymakers visiting a UK destination for two to three holidays a year.
The greatest attraction for travellers to the area most famed for its lakes, National Parks and children’s stories is the areas spectacular scenery. The second biggest draw was the choice of holiday park, closely followed by the friendly atmosphere and water sports.
In particular, guests of White Cross Bay and Fallbarrow Park on the shores of Lake Windermere, specifically pointed out friendly staff, location and accommodation as the aspects which ensured a happy holiday and their return to the region time after time.
The poll comes only a year after the devastating attacks in London and shows a return in confidence to the UK holiday market.
Holiday’s in countries such as Egypt however, itself the target of recent terror attacks, have suffered a blow according to the survey. With a staggering 50.8 per cent naming Egypt as a country they would not wish to visit due to safety fears.
Owner of South Lakeland Caravans, John Morphet commented: “The results of the poll come as no surprise for us. White Cross Bay and Fallbarrow Park, which are situated on the shores of Lake Windermere, encompass 600 holiday homes that attract many thousands of visitors each year. However, world events can often have an adverse effect on the public’s behaviour, but it’s pleasing to see confidence returning. The UK holiday market has much to offer, in a safe and friendly environment.”
