Press Release: 24 May 2006

Bristol law firm Beachcroft LLP is going green with the launch of a new scheme aimed at encouraging employees to leave their cars at home and cycle to work. Developed in line with the Government's green travel initiative, Beachcroft's 'bike to work' scheme was launched by the firm on 22 May.

One of the region's first firms to offer such a programme, Beachcroft will give employees the chance to benefit from a tax-free new bike at up to 50% off the recommended retail price.

"A lot of our lawyers and staff work close to the city centre, so we were really keen to introduce the initiative and encourage employees to cycle to work," says Jackie Skinner, Beachcroft's benefits manager.

"There was also a big demand from our employees to develop resources that allowed them to leave their cars at home; not only because of the environmental benefits, but to relieve some of the stress involved in commuting through the heavy traffic in Bristol."

"We want to give this scheme every chance of success, so we're also providing safety helmets up to the value of £30. Our new offices currently being built at Portwall Lane, will have cycle facilities, including showers and bike stands for safe storage."

Beachcroft converted to a Limited Liability Partnership on 1 May 2006 to ensure greater transparency and commercialisation of the firm. The Bristol office currently includes 24 partners and over 400 staff. Its partners have particular expertise and experience in commercial property, public sector, PFI/PPP projects, health, IT, construction, litigation, financial services and employment law.
