EIC ENSURES ALL GOES SWIMMINGLY AT ENGLAND'S FIRST BARRAMUNDI FARM
EIC is providing on-going maintenance and improvement work for England's first barramundi farm in Lymington. The work carries on from an initial contract given to the mechanical and electrical expert in March 2006 to install new pumps, pipes and timers and improve the existing filtration system.
Approximately 100,000 fish were imported from Australia to the heart of the New Forest last September in a bid to start the breeding, development and selling of barramundi in England. The fish are stored in 48 tanks that hold 3 million litres of fresh, recycled water. The water is heated to 28C (82F) to match the temperature the fish are used to in Australia.
Nigel Le Marechal, joint managing director of EIC, comments: "The team is enjoying being part of such a novel contract. Our Southern office is situated very close to the farm so we are fulfilling a corporate mission to be a national concern which is able to offer strong local support."
"The initial work was fairly labour intensive as the team had to install tanks and filter systems that would provide the fish with the best environment. Barramundi farming is not our specialist field but we're delighted to be able to add it to the list !"
