Beachcroft boosts its ranking in Manchester
This year's Legal 500, the largest independent guide to the legal profession, has revealed that Beachcroft's Manchester office has gained five new entries, one national entry, and increased its ranking in two practice areas. It has also retained its ranking in six practice areas, including a top tier position in personal injury.
For the first time, the property litigation, social housing, franchising, intellectual property, licensing, and health and safety teams have been recognised in the definitive guide to the legal market.
'Well versed in high-value disputes', the property litigation practice is headed by Robert Moss and Jan Levinson. Jan Levinson is also praised for having 'a real talent for thinking laterally and creatively'.
Partner Stephen Birchall combines real estate and public sector expertise to 'field a strong national social housing team, primarily acting for housing associations'.
"The maturing franchise practice at Beachcroft LLP is led by the respected Pauline Cowie" and focuses on advice to international franchisors.
Led by the 'excellent' Pauline Cowie, the intellectual property team has acted for Topps Tiles and Pickfords on trademark disputes, and has also advised Tsingtao Beer on its UK distribution and Juice Corporation on the Middle Eastern franchise of Joe Bloggs.
Also headed by Jan Levinson, the licensing team has advised Manchester United and Lancashire County Cricket Club on various issues.
The health and safety team has defended several major clients against health and safety prosecutions, including BAE Systems. Led by regional senior partner, Iain Moore, the team has also advised Intervoice on posting engineers to Iraq and Nigeria.
Manchester's corporate and commercial team has moved up the rankings, with Leila Porter recognised as a 'top notch operator in the AIM market' and praised for her 'strong business acumen and experience in negotiating good outcomes for her clients'. The insolvency and corporate recovery team also moved up to a three tier ranking.
The personal injury team retained its top tier ranking, with catastrophic injury specialist, Peter Lindsay, recognised for his 'experience in defending group actions involving industrial defendants.'
The commercial litigation, employment, professional negligence, commercial property and information technology all retained their positions in this year's report.
Commenting on the results, Manchester's senior partner Iain Moore said: "The positive feedback and praise received from our clients and the industry as a whole, reflects our continued commitment to the Manchester market and our growing expertise and strength.
"We have a total of 14 Manchester teams who appear in the rankings, which is an excellent result for our office and testament to our ability to attract and retain high calibre clients and staff."
Overall, Beachcroft was ranked 41 nationally, and the survey summarised the firm as having achieved "one of the most successful diversifications of national firms: it is now recommended in planning, telecoms and EU and competition this year."
