Leading mechanical and electrical services provider EIC has now completed work on the purpose-built facilities for the new Hampshire Collegiate (formed from the merging of Embley Park School and Atherley School). EIC started the £1.8 million design and build, mechanical and electrical contract at the beginning of 2006 with the aim to handover in time for the new school year.

The site, which is surrounded by acres of Hampshire's countryside, includes an original manor house building, which was once the home of Florence Nightingale. There are two new buildings: an infant and junior school and a block for the senior school specialising in technology, engineering, science and art. The senior school block, which is grafted on to a listed garden wall, contains computer suites and workshops.

Work was undertaken by EIC's Southern region and has included the design and installation of all electrical lighting, data, small power, fire alarms, security, domestic hot and cold water services, underfloor heating, ventilation, LPG gas installation and specialist dust and fume extract systems.

Joint managing director of EIC, Nigel Le Marechal comments: "Following on from a very successful 2005 for EIC Southern, this office has continued to secure a substantial share of the education market with the team building a strong portfolio of show case jobs delivered on time and to a high standard. We were particularly pleased to embark on the work at the Hampshire Collegiate as part of the site includes the ancestral homes of Florence Nightingale and so is steeped in history."

Main contractor, Dean & Dyball Construction Ltd has worked closely with EIC on the project. Kevin Valentine, project manager for Dean & Dybald adds: "We've been happy to work with EIC as the team has demonstrable knowledge and experience in this sector and so is able to anticipate certain requirements and head off any potential problems."
