Commercial law firm Beachcroft LLP continues to expand its successful Healthcare and Clinical Risk team in Leeds, with the appointment of two new solicitors.
Helen Hobman and Emma Bolland will be working with Beachcroft's existing NHS and private sector health clients across Yorkshire. With specific NHS backgrounds and insight, the new recruits will (in conjunction with the rest of the team) focus on the extensive client base in Yorkshire, but over time will help extend the team's services across the North of England as part of the firm's cross-Pennine initiative.
A trainee with Beachcroft in Leeds, Helen Hobman joined the team on qualification earlier this month. Before pursuing her law career, Helen qualified as a doctor at Leeds Medical School, completing her training with posts at various hospitals within what is now Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Jane Hayden-Smith, partner and head of the Healthcare and Clinical Risk team in Leeds, said: "Helen's medical background will be an invaluable asset. She understands how the NHS works, has knowledge of medicine and medical terminology and has first hand experience from a non-lawyer perspective of the practical legal issues that arise in providing patient services. Much of our work in the team relates to those services."
Qualifying as a solicitor in September 2004, Emma Bolland has been working in-house with the NHS as a Dental Access Facilitator in the North and East Yorkshire, advising on the provision of dental services and associated contract issues.
"Emma has detailed knowledge of the new contract arrangements for dental services," explained Hayden-Smith. "Her experience of working within the NHS rather than an external adviser to NHS bodies will assist us in our aim to provide practical, workable legal solutions to clients rather than just advice on the law."
Beachcroft's Healthcare and Clinical Risk team works on the complete range of legal issues relating to the provision of healthcare including inquests, applications for judicial review, funding and continuing care issues, data protection, integrated governance for Trusts and Foundation Trusts, dealing with independent contractors and relationships with statutory partners and the private sector. The team has an extensive client base in Yorkshire and is, for example, following a recent tender one of only four firms appointed to the panel of legal advisers selected to act for all NHS bodies across South Yorkshire.
