Building a reputation in Leeds

The Leeds office of national commercial law firm, Beachcroft LLP, has strengthened its specialist construction team with the promotion of Paul Washbourne to the position of partner.

Paul, who joined the firm as an associate in 2005 from Newcastle-based Dickinson Dees, originally qualified as a civil engineer before becoming a solicitor in 1997. In the last 12 months, Paul has worked closely with both the Leeds and Manchester teams in developing a broader offering of real estate services to both new and existing clients.

Commenting on the appointment, John Vasey, national head of Beachcroft's team of construction specialists, said: "Paul's first-hand experience of the industry, extensive personal contacts and direct practical manner have made him a valuable addition to the team. His ability to offer general development advice, as well as his knowledge of the law as it relates specifically to construction issues has helped us to broaden the range of commercial services we can offer to clients across the North of England."

Paul's appointment means that the firm now has a team of seven construction specialists acting for construction and property clients on both sides of the Pennines.

"I joined Beachcroft because I wanted to be part of this drive to develop a cross-Pennine centre of excellence in construction and engineering," added Paul, "and that's exactly what we're delivering. New instructions have included work from Balfour Beatty, The Hanro Group and, Shepherd Construction and we are actively developing an integrated construction and real estate offering for the health and education sectors. This focus on specific sectors helps us to provide clients with real experience of their market and the commercial issues they face on a day to day basis."

Beachcroft LLP is one of the country's fastest-growing commercial law firms, with dedicated teams working in the construction, technology, health, industrial and financial services sector from offices across the UK. The Leeds team forms part of Beachcroft's national property and construction practice of over 45 lawyers across four locations.
