The innovative use of Terca bricks in both commercial and residential properties has been recognised at this year's BDA Brick Awards, with two top accolades.
One Piccadilly Gardens, a specialist retail development made from Terca's Warnham Terracotta brick, achieved the award for 'best commercial building'. Designed by architects Allies and Morrison, One Piccadilly Gardens was praised by the judges for its light brickwork façade and its dramatic appearance, which was created by Terca's vibrant red brick.
"We're delighted to have achieved this coveted award, which demonstrates how bricks can be used to create innovative buildings on a large scale," says David Simpson, sales and marketing director at Terca. "Architecturally, this building is very advanced and offers a very unique, modern look that contrasts greatly with a lot of the buildings in the surrounding area."
In addition, Barratt Eastern Counties achieved the 'volume housebuilding award' as a result of three contemporary projects, which all used Terca bricks. Terca's Warnham Red brick was used at the Albany Gardens and Capital Square developments in Colchester. In addition, Terca's Warnham Terracotta brick was used at both the Albany Gardens and Balkerne Heights developments.
"Our products can be seen in a number of this year's top projects, which is a great achievement, particularly for our Warnham factory," continues David. "Our Aldbury Red Multi brick was also used in the runner up project for best public building, so on the whole it's been a great success for the Terca team."
One of the construction sector's leading and prestigious events, The BDA Brick Awards celebrate the use of brick and recognise best practice, excellence, professionalism and innovation in the industry. This year over 200 projects were entered, with 50 short-listed across 11 categories.
