"My nomination and election came as a bit of a surprise, but I welcome the opportunity and am delighted to be involved," says Peter. "I assume it's a result of my work in industry and commerce over the years, particularly in South Yorkshire. I am looking forward to helping support the Society's aims."
Peter has expertise as a public sector, commercial, corporate and trust lawyer, and advises on commercial and PFI-related agreements. He has been involved in number of projects across the Yorkshire region and is actively involved in several professional organisations - he is a former president of Rotherham Chamber of Commerce, chairman of Yorkshire and Humberside Chambers of Commerce, and is presently a trustee of Weston Park Cancer Care Appeal, and a non executive director of Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and the Doncaster and South Humber NHS Trust.
Founded in 1754 by William Shipley, a painter and social activist, today the RSA's work is framed by five manifesto challenges - 'encouraging enterprise', 'moving towards a zero waste society', 'developing a capable population', 'fostering resilient communities', and 'advancing global citizenships'.
