EIC is on course to complete work on the new phase at Malvern Hill Science Park, near Worcester. The national mechanical and electrical specialist started the £1.5 million mechanical and electrical installation last July and is expecting to finish by mid-June 2007.

The contract has called upon EIC's commercial and education expertise as the industrial and research Park, which is dedicated to high-technology companies, requires its units to contain services for future laboratories as well as commercial space.

There will be three floors of offices and two floors of laboratories available on this third phase of the development. For EIC, this is an eco-friendly, new-build contract which is marked by sustainable credentials. The building will use ground source heating systems to heat and cool the building and will allow ventilation via "Termodeck" precast reinforced concrete floor planks. This hollow core structure enables floors and ceilings to be heated and cooled by fresh air for the most efficient heat transfer through the thermal mass of the building structure. There will also be a rainwater recovery system.

Joint managing director of EIC, Nigel Le Marechal comments: "We are always delighted to extend our eco-credentials and demonstrate our knowledge in this field, so the team has been very pleased to add the Science Park to its bulging portfolio. We've liaised closely with engineering consultant, Couch Perry Wilkes to ensure that the work is completed to meet their vision for the energy efficient standards set out in their design."
