Speaking at a reception hosted by local commercial law firm, Beachcroft LLP, at Bristol Zoo, managing director of Shore Capital, Graham Shore said: "Substantial funding continues to be available from venture capital trusts and the scope for structuring deals that take advantage of enterprise tax incentives is broader than people might think. We manage a number of funds, including the venture capital trusts that recently invested in the Cadbury House Hotel and Country Club in Congresbury. We believe that the South West has enormous scope for us as a source of high quality investments - and we are actively engaging with the local business community to drive this forward."
Over the past year, Shore Capital has worked closely with Beachcroft's corporate finance team in Bristol on a number of projects, including the launch of the £75m pre-IPO fund, St Peter Port Capital Limited, on the AIM market.
"There has recently been some scepticism in the region about the quality of opportunities for venture capital trust investment," adds John Williams, head of corporate at Beachcroft, Bristol. "Shore Capital's presence indicates that for those prepared to engage properly and to flush out the premium deals, the market is very much still alive".
